From time to time, there are people who think Bill’s wearing an eye patch is part of his “costume”! One can't really blame them, after all, it does make him look pretty “western”. In spite of that, the fact of the matter is, that Bill experienced a roping accident in 1989, which resulted in the loss of sight in his right eye. At the time many believed Bill’s career as a successful artist would cease to exist, but in the opinion of some, his drawings and paintings actually improved. However, due to the loss of depth perception, Bill soon learned he could no longer sculpt. Sculpture was a part of Bill’s art that he truly enjoyed, and he missed being able to turn to it when he needed to take a break from drawing or painting.

In 1999, while living on our ranch, Bill began to feel as if he had compensated for and adjusted to the loss of depth perception, and his desire to attempt to sculpt again began to grow. The rigorous demands of the ranch would not afford him the time to attempt it, so he was unable to act on his belief until the summer of 2002 after relocating to Wickenburg, Arizona. As a result, Bill presented his first sculpture in 13 years at the 37th Annual Cowboy Artists of America Show, held October 18, 2002 at the Phoenix Art Museum; and it was very well received! “The Longhorn” is an extremely versatile piece that looks just as great hanging over an inside fireplace as it does over an outside gate!

At the time of Bill’s injury he had just created the fourth boot in an on-going series of boots, and he plans to resume the series. So look for that in the near future, as well as thirteen years of other ideas to become reality now that he has successfully resumed sculpting!

Bill’s website is currently under construction so we can start offering his latest Limited Edition Giclée reproductions on canvas. Please be patient and keep checking back for the addition of a Giclée page, featuring exciting new images, previewed here on the ‘Lithographs’, ‘Events’ and ‘Note Cards’ pages.
